Urban expansion is a critical phenomenon in rapidly growing cities across India, and Lucknow is no exception. The region surrounding Chaudhary Charan Singh (CCS) Airport, once known for its vast stretches of wasteland, has become a focal point for urbanization in recent years. This transformation, driven by infrastructure development, population growth, and economic opportunities, raises important questions about land use, sustainability, and environmental impacts. Historically, the land around CCS Airport was characterized by underutilized and degraded areas, often labeled as wastelands. However, with the expansion of the airport's infrastructure and improved connectivity, these once-neglected areas are now experiencing considerable urban development. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of urban expansion on the wasteland areas around CCS Airport, investigating the transformation from barren land to developed urban spaces. The research also explores how this change has affected the environment, local communities, and future planning for the region. This paper aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the processes driving this transformation and the challenges that arise from such rapid development. This research paper seeks to evaluate the transition of these wastelands into thriving urban environments, investigating the driving forces behind this change and its socio-economic and environmental consequences. By analyzing land-use patterns, infrastructure development, and the effects on local communities, the study aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of urban expansion in this region. Furthermore, it explores the challenges and opportunities that arise from such rapid growth, focusing on the sustainability of these developments. The findings will contribute to a broader understanding of urbanization around key infrastructural hubs and provide valuable insights for future urban planning in Lucknow and similar cities.
